Modern URLs are often much longer than they look — a product page, a document link, or a search result can carry hundreds of characters once tracking parameters and session tokens are appended. Send that link the wrong way and it can get truncated, wrapped, or split across lines in a way that breaks it entirely.
Where Long URLs Commonly Break
- SMS text messages, which sometimes split long messages and can corrupt the link at the seam
- Some chat apps that auto-shorten or preview-strip a link, losing part of the original
- Printed or handwritten notes, where a wrapped line makes it unclear if a character was a hyphen or a line break

How to Send One Safely
The safest transfer methods are ones that treat the URL as plain text with no reformatting, resizing, or "smart" link handling in between. Copy-pasting through a plain text field — rather than a messaging app that tries to preview or shorten the link — preserves every character exactly.
A short-code text-sharing tool works well here specifically because it does nothing clever with the content: what you paste is exactly what comes out the other end, character for character, regardless of length (up to the tool's character limit).
If you are ever unsure whether a link survived a transfer intact, paste it somewhere plain — a notes app or a text field — before clicking, so you can visually check it has not been truncated.
